Encite is dedicated to helping you remain HIPAA compliant and, as a Business Associate under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, recognizes its obligation to provide you with satisfactory assurances of the protection and appropriate use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) shared with covered entities. These assurances are stated in our Business Associates' contract in accordance with HIPAA privacy regulations.

To meet or exceed the Business Associate standards, Encite:

  • Enforces strict privacy practices and security measures
  • Employs systems to:
    • Review and improve PHI protection
    • Detect security breaches

Encite 837 data (claim) files have received HIPAA certification including:

  • The 837 Professional format used in place of the CMS-1500 or NSF electronic format
  • The 837 Institutional format used in place of the UB-92 format
  • The 837 Dental format used for dental claims.

The 837 file format can also be used to coordinate the many benefit variations that a claim file may involve, e.g., secondary payor claims, tertiary claims, and guarantor - patient relationships.

Encite has integrated the 837 file format into our PMS using SQL Server stored procedures and functions rather than tying it to a particular version of the software. This means that, when users choose the optional new HIPAA 837 format (instead of HCFA or UB92), claim files will be transmitted to the payor or clearinghouse as 837 files and will work regardless of the PMS version used.

Encite HIPAA certification may also help during implementation by reducing the time required to become "certified" by clearinghouses.
